What PVC is
PVC is a heat-welded roofing membrane with a long track record. Its seams weld into one continuous sheet, and the material itself stands up to grease, oils and chemicals that break other roofs down. That’s why PVC goes over restaurant kitchens, shops with exhaust fans, and any roof where what comes out of the vents would eat a lesser membrane.
It handles our climate as well. Welded seams give five months of sitting snow nowhere to creep in, and the membrane stays workable in cold weather.
PVC costs more than TPO, and we say so up front. Where the building calls for it, it earns its keep. Where it doesn’t, we’ll tell you and quote something simpler.
When we put PVC on a building
We don’t reach for PVC by default. It goes on when something about the building argues for it, and usually that’s one of four things:
- Kitchen or process exhaust. Grease-laden air lands on the roof and stays there. PVC shrugs it off; a membrane that doesn’t will soften and craze around the fans.
- Chemical or solvent exposure. Shops, small plants, anywhere the air leaving the building is harder on the roof than the weather is.
- A roof that has already failed once. If the last membrane went early and nobody can say why, the longer track record is worth paying for.
- Owners who plan in decades. Some buildings get sold every few years and some get handed down. If yours is the second kind, say so and we’ll price it that way.
If none of those describe your building, TPO does the same job for less, and that’s what we’ll put on the quote.

How we install it
- Tear off, inspect the deck, and deal with what we find before covering it.
- Set insulation and cover board for a flat, solid base.
- Roll out the membrane and heat-weld every seam, then probe each weld.
- Fit the metal details: edges, drains, vents and caps from our own Trail shop.
Common questions

Yes. Welded seams are PVC's strength. Meltwater from a Kootenay winter has no lap or glue line to creep through when the welding is done right. Trail Roofing heat-welds every seam and checks the welds before we leave the roof. That discipline is the durability.
